If’n you want more music that sounds like the music you already listen to, then visit Pandora.com.

Basically these nice people have taken an objective approach to identifying different qualities in music. They mapped damn near every song in existence, invented a really intuitive interface, and they serve up an unlimited helping of music. When you rate songs, your music stream will change dynamically.

It’s neat :)

(p.s. you can use a fake e.mail address)

My new idol!

Goodbye Carl Weathers. Hello Leslie Hall.

Leslie is the world’s only sweateroligist, and she claims to have the world’s largest collection of gem sweaters (plus she’s Effing HOT)!

Anyways, she is going to be touring in May, and will have stops in Portland (Boregon, I think), and because she is from Bossytown, I assume she’ll play in my hood. I’ll make sure to let all you creep crawlers know when to go see her.

ps. Carl, you were awesome while you lasted–thanks for letting me idolize you for those three super special weeks.

pps. Here is Leslie’s band website, and another tantalizing video.

Friends, Family Members and Scientists,

You’re invited to a music video screening followed by a competitive game of grab-ass (read on for dee-tails).

When: The eve of December 22nd
Where: An undisclosed location in Albany, Boregon
Why: I NEED to get feedback on videos, in order to create a smart launch strategy for Telemusicvision
What: A tantalizing selection of videos from some of the following bands: Aphex Twin, The Postal Service, Bloc Party, Hot Hot Heat, The Mountain Goats, LFO, Pinback, Smoosh, The Thermals, Pepe Delux, and more!

Be there or die! (No, I’m serious, you’ll die if you don’t show up)

Sin.,
Dean

ps. it’d be unexpectedly cool if you would RSVP to the event by comment or e.mail!

Myspace.com, super fun or super not fun!?

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Absolutely everything you post (music, photos, words) on Myspace, for as long as it remains on your profile, is co-owned by Rupert Murdoch and his empire (the nice people who own Fox News). I don’t mean this in some sort of figurative way—the co-ownership is clearly documented in Myspace’s Terms. You implicitly give Rupert, “The non-exclusive, fully paid, worldwide license to use, publicly perform and display [your intellectual property] on the Website.”

Although I made my own account a few months ago, I have become increasingly alarmed by the fact that more and more of my peers are using Myspace as their sole means of electronic communication. I thought ill of Myspace, even before Rupert had purchased it. The simple fact that Myspace is such a proprietary medium of communication is what initially bothered me. In addition to that, now those asshats at Fox have unfettered access to who we know, what we’re excited about, and a list of everything we like and dislike—we’re basically building a giamungous web of consumer data while we look at flash advertisements and post cute comments on each other’s profiles.

So next time you’re on Myspace, you might consider posting a thank you to Rupert for giving us such a unique and fun place to play. Just make sure your comment isn’t, “offensive or illegal,” because, “MySpace.com reserves the right… in its sole discretion [to take action] against anyone who violates this provision, including without limitation, removing the offending communication from the Service and terminating the membership of such violators.” In layperson’s terms, all your communication belongs to Fox.
